slapnuts Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 I currently have a ati 9800pro in my puter, I just bought a ati x800xl .I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from ati a few days ago. My question is do I have to uninstall these drivers before I install my new vid card or can I just install my new card and everything will be fine? Mangar Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 (edited) I would definatly remove all traces of you old drivers !! There are programs that will "clean" this for you, I will look them up and post back. Here you GO !!!!! Edited June 8, 2005 by Mangar
exeter_acres Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 agree with manger (welcome back!) while it might work just fine without the uninstall as they are both ATI... it is always smart to start clean.... I think this is what I used: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 Driver cleaner.... do a normal uninstall....run driver cleaner... whenver asked to restart..DO NOT... shut down... install new card.. restart.. cancel any automatic driver install windows then install the newest drivers from ATI at least that is how I do it.... Mangar Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 I have tried without uninstalling when switching cards before, and I can honestly say that after a clean and reinstall, my benchmarks went up!!

Mangar Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 (edited) now that I think about it, that would make sence 489185[/snapback] It is FACT !! be advised that also some version of the "CAT" drivers perform better than others. Just because they are "new" does not mean they will score better. Edited June 8, 2005 by Mangar
