X800 Xl Vs 6800 Gt

Recommended Posts

Well its either this or a 6800 Ultra, this card only requires a 300 watt psu, its better then a 6800 GT, cheaper, and at full details and high resolution it compares to a 6800 U, and since im not trading shmitty for his moniter (15 inch + maxes out at 1025x728 res) this card should be great at high res with all details for HL2.

I'd be careful with throwing around the "x800xl is a better card than the 6800gt" statement. I'm an ATI guy too...but it's hard for me to honestly say that the x800xl is a "better" card. It certainly is a better choice for most people...runs cooler, consumes less power, much better bang for the buck. But, the 6800gt WILL beat the x800xl in more benchmarks than not. Also, the x800xl borderline sucks in OGL...and its hard to dispute this in any way. The driver change helped with the DOOM3 benchmark...but from what I've read there is no question that it still plays the game "jerkier" than the 6800gt regardless of the bench result. And don't forget that Quake IV, Prey, and Wolfenstein2 all are based on the DOOM3 engine...and these are going to be HUGE games.

I just bought an x800xl, but lets just say if both cards were at the same price point, ATI would be in deep trouble IMO.

I agree. My main game (Pacific Fighters) is OGL, and 6800GT stomps the XL in that. My brother has the XL, so we're always comparing. I get stomped in 3D '01, beat the XL in '03, and it's a tie in '05.

The X800 XL loses to the 6800 U in the doom3 benchmark, I don't think it loses to the 6800 GT.

x800xl gets beat by the 6800gt by a pretty decent margin. The 6800U wipes the floor with it.

Edit: And actually if you look at all the benches, the x800xl gets beat by the 6800gt in UT, Doom3, Riddick (by a lot), Pacific Fighters, and The Sims (at higher detail). The x800xl beats it only in 3dm and HL2.
