Mr Black Cat Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 umm.. I have another prob: heatsink is too hot! my fan monitoring system (speed fan) says that my atlon xp (2 GHz thoroughbred) is at *looks at sped fan numbers* 120 degrees average temperature (in farenheit). any suggestions? Guest Jeremy Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Is it dusty? If so try cleaning it off
cchalogamer Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 well first off if the HSF is hot then good news is you applyed thermal paste correctly, ppl seem to think it should be cold, anyway. 48C isnt TOO bad if you have much of an OC and dont have a decent assuming load temp. Also the temp prob could be worng, and how many RPMs is the fan running?
fire_storm Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 How many fans are in the case?
Mr Black Cat Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 answering all the thoughts respectively (in order): 1) it isn't dusty 2) the fan isn't that warm at all.... 3) only the HSF and one white led fan. Â Â Further business: Any good heasink ideas? i looked at the adjustable duct fan on tigerdirect.com, and it had some pretty decent reviews..... And on another note: Any good suggestions for a good case fan? my computer case can carry two max (2 case fans and one HSF) and now i need another. Â hoping others will realise that this is a hint to say that i am in a finacial bind: Mr Black Cat
aaronamd Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 you are fine! I run my athlon XP 2600+ at 3200+ speeds with a load temp of 53 cetigrade, NEVER gets higher. It will run like his all year perfectly, only start worrying when it reaches 60c. but if the heatsink is HOT hot then you might have a probe that says one thing while reality is another. if this is the cause look into getting a volcano 12 extreme edition heatsink. Mr Black Cat Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 MY MY! all this feed back! *bows politely* I am most grateful to all of you people...*wipes away tear* so.....i guess i have finally found a forum where people are actually acknowledging i exist. Once again thanx for all the feedback. Â Finally belonging: Mr Black Cat
HoLoDreaM Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 if you wanna jump on the sport of modding bandwagon, cut a fan hole on the side of your case facing right into your CPU... better temps
fastvfr Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 A hot HS is a good thing, as cchalogamer pointed out. You just need to give it some cooler air to work with. Â Spend $5 or so and borrow a jigsaw. Use the saw to cut a hole in the side panel and make that an intake fan mounting spot. Â Cheap, efficient, and, when you get another $5, borrow the saw again and make another hole--this time in the TOP of the case. Mod in a blowhole. Â For 10 bucks you can drop temps 10C or more.
