aluc Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 I'm going to buy a new monitor soon. I was just wondering your opinions on an LCD versus a Crt monitor. Also, which ones to buy. Thanks in advance
stitch_626 Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 I'm going to buy a new monitor soon. I was just wondering your opinions on an LCD versus a Crt monitor. Also, which ones to buy. Thanks in advance 480545 I have a 21" and a 19" CRT. Paid $150 for the 21" and $100 for the 19". Bought both of them used and they have great pictures. You couldn't get on 21" for the combined price of both. Sure they take up more room but that wasn't one of my concerns.
aluc Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 It's not one of my concerns either. But, I'll need to know. Cause I play games a lot of games especially for next year since there are a lot of great pc games coming out. So I need a preference. Which monitor is best for gaming lcd or crt? Also, which ones do you recommend. Like brand?

Guest PoopsicleBoy Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 lcd's are said to be better for gaming. thats true. if u have the space i say get a decent lcd. if u dont have the space (like me) get a lcd with a responce time under 16ms and u should be fine. i got an acer 17in lcd 16ms for only 180$ on sale. Vampire Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 I think CRT's are actually better for gaming. Low response time LCDs are also good for gaming though. Personally I would rather an LCD, they are nice looking, lightweight and have more viewing area (generally a 19" LCD will have nearly the same amount of actual viewable screen as a 21" CRT) I say go for an LCD, I know my next monitor will be. aluc Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Oh ok. So, what kind of response time is good for gaming? I saw a really cheap LCD monitor for about $250 response time 8ms.
red930 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 anything under 20ms should be reasonable. me personally i had a dell 2001FP and i kinda had a hard time with its response time, so i went out and got a samsung 915n with 8ms response time. i love the samsung, even though it wont reproduce colors like other lcd panels will. but it is a sacrafice for performance. dont get me wrong we either, games look good, but it doesn't have that luster like a 24 bit panel would produce. aluc Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Alright, I hear that LCD's have ghosting images can someone explain that to me. What is ghosting? Will it give me a hard time while playing?
Legato895 Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Alright, I hear that LCD's have ghosting images can someone explain that to me. What is ghosting? Will it give me a hard time while playing? 481970 the ghosting is due to the responce time. the faster the responce time, the less ghosting, because each pixel is figuring out what it needs to do faster instead of lagging behind it really verys from person to person on what is an acceptable level. i would highly suggest seeing the monitor in person, its very well that 12 and 16ms doesn't bother you not to mention dead pixel policies really suck online
Nerm Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Get a 19" LCD with no higher than a 16ms response time and you will be set. I would suggest getting either an Acer, Viewsonic, LG, Hyndui, or another good brand I am sure I am forgetting lol.
