Savan Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 What is the max safe Vcore on a Newcastle AMD 64 3500+, if I can keep it under 20C
ir_cow Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 1.85-9, those can cook bigtime but i doubt at 1.9v it will be 20c
Savan Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Well if I pe it, I can get sub zero, but I dont really want it that cold, so I want to rase the Vcore, and the fsb. So I can get a higher oc.
inevitab1e Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 you got a 754 or a 939? With a 3500, that isn't much of a overclock. I have my 754 3000+ running at 2.
exeter_acres Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 not sure on the vcore as I'm a "retro" 32 bit guy....but it depends on cooling... Your question is very open ended.... are you using a normal HS&F? water? phase change? etc. etc.
Savan Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 its a 939, the curent core is 1.65, I know its not much of an oc, but thats as high as I can get it, any sugestions, Ive curently got a Zalman 7000Cu, but Im saving up for wc, maby even peltier (I think thats what they are called)
ir_cow Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 you said you chips at 20c, now im confused and highvcore wil cook the chip unless under w/c
Savan Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 no, I said if I could keep it under 20c
Puck Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Ive curently got a Zalman 7000Cu, but Im saving up for wc, maby even peltier (I think thats what they are called) 480434[/snapback] Pelts have started to lose their appeal for cpu cooling - you'd need some watercooling just to cool a pelt big enough for good temps, and a seperate expensive PSU like a Meanwell. They were great back in the days when a 75watter and hsf on top was all you could ever need, but new procs are just too hot now. oralpain Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 I think I could build a chilled water pelt that could rival some single stage phase change, both in temps and cost. If you can keep the newcastle under 20C maximum load, I think 1.85v would be safe long term.
hardnrg Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 instead of buying better cooling, buy an nForce mobo instead of that VIA one you've got now... i seriously doubt colder temps will help you and think your mobo is the root of your very weak oc...
