duffbeer911 Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 Hi, well.....today my PC won't boot up. It has been playing up a bit lately. Running slowly, and the mouse would sort of freeze for a couple seconds. Then I got a blue screen of death while rendering in after effects. didn't think too much of it. Now, when I turn it on it gets through the RAM check, detects my sata HD but then says "no HPA enabled drive detected" and that's it. I saw in another post that it could be due to the CPU overheating? Is this possible? I got a new case about a week ago and maybe the CPU is loose? Any help would be great. thanks in advance

As far as loose CPU? I don't think so you would have more problems and I don't see how you would just have a loose CPU. Loose HSF possibly but that should also have been apparent when you installed it.
Mr Black Cat Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 Strange huh? I have experienced the same thing myself. If you get it running again, try installing and running adaware se. that did it for mine, and i don't know why... Also: you said that it isn't starting up at all? Oh my. My stars. I let mine sit for about a week (dunno how that method worked either...). Hoping he was of some help: Mr Black Cat
CPU_Cooker Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 If this is happenning since you moved it to the new case, I recomend talking it all appart and putting it all back together. But I have no idea was HPA stands for. Also try clearing the CMOS to see if you can get to the bios screen. If you can't get to the bios, then you have a real problem Good luck CPU_Cooker
Guest Raven65 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 First thing is to make sure all your plugs are in tightly. then make sure your pci cards are in secure then check your ram, and then the CPU. I don't think it would be a heating issue, you can't boot and it shuts off before you can generate any kind of temp.
duffbeer911 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 thanks for the help. I've got it working again. Amazingly, i just let it sit for a bit, restarted a few times and then it was fine.....well....sorta fine. I run all the software tests (adaware, nortons etc). Found a couple small things. I think it is overheating though. My new case has some small temperature sensors so I put one just in the grill of the heatsink. And it is now reading 45C !!!! way too hot yeah. I don't think the sensors are very accurate but still. So I am going to strip everything down and put it back together. oh, btw, hpa is something about your disks being able to boot. Something weird. I dunno. Thanks for the help.. I hope it gets better soon
