Need Your Help Again..... My Rig This Time!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am in a debate with myself here. This is the setup thus far:

DFI LANPARTY NF4 SLI- Mobo (939)

Athlon 64 3800 VENICE

2 GIGS of Corsair XMS TWINX Pc3200

I am in need of a video card (pci-e) obviously. I am looking at these 2 cards:

A.) ATI Radeon X850XT PE 256MB (Pci-E)-- $580.00

OR

B.) BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra Overclocked 256MB(Pci-E)-- $599.00

I want to do this upgrade now, and the price isnt an option, heck, Im spending close to 600 either way, so it really doesnt matter at this point.

I read reviews, but I never got a real comparison, that picks one or the other, they both seem so good. I didnt really get a solid review of the OC BFG though against the radeon.

I will be playing ALL the latest games, not just doom 3 or HL2. Give me some advice here please! :)

Thanks in Advance.

I would go with the ATI, Im not sure, but I think I saw a comparison graph, and ATI won in all the catagories except for 1. Not sure, though, I could just be making this up? I really dont remembur.

1:1 the ATi would be better, thought ive seen comparison charts where the ATi benches better, yet the 6800 ultra has a better average FPS in games like Doom3 and Farcry which is REALLY what you want... and also the 6800ultra has the option of going SLI!!! woot

FPS actually means nothing. as long as you get 30+fps, then your eyes wont be able to tell the difference. What really matters is resolution, AA, and AF. i.e. the image quality. The overall image quality will be better at higher resolutions w/ the ATI. fact is, i rather run all the eye candy at high res and get 60fps, than run no eye candy and like 640x480 res and get 600fps.

Second that ^

I run all my Games at 1280x1024 (mnax res of my LCD) and MAX out all detials + AA & AF at 6x & 16x respectively!

I get aroud 60-100 Fps all the way! And the games look AMAZING!

Either way tho, which ever card u choose, im sure you will be happy with it!!

Ati def, The OCed BFG would be good, but as CNUco2007 says, FPS wont matter as long as it's a decent rate, those x850's will up the graphics "quality" which is alot more important as far as gaming goes, u want all the eye candy turned on right?

well if thats the case then go wit the x850

unless your just going for raw fps' which wouldnt make any sense, the x850 is a no brainer, plus it's like what? 19 dollars less? LOL! :-P

good luck finding one...and if you wanna throw in suffixs' the x850xt pe is even faster, and has most potential of any single graphics card solution out so far :P
