Duff Man Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Ok, someone in my neighborhood is selling a 87 accord lx with 240,000 miles for $750 now the thing is that the car wont start but can be push started, the curent owner has replaced the starter, battery and lastyear got a new alternator. my questin is shuld I get it and try to fix it my self, Ive heard stuff about bad conectins to the starter from the battery posible bad ignotion and a host of oter posibilitys almost all of them involveing cheap fixes (under $30). I'm just not sure if I should take the plunge or not. and Ive heard good things about the 3rd gen accords getting well over 300k miles. even 380k. anyway what do you guys think? Gremlin Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I do not know much about cars, but it has 240,000 miles and has the engine been replaced?
smeghead009 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 do you have the 750$ ? if you can id say buy it, fix it and sell it for twice what you bought it for, it will give you some experience in working on cars and those hondas can run forever, the first place id check is the starter relay ... Whitelightning Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Way to many miles man....If it ran than that might sway me to purchase it...My opion is to stay away from it and wait for something alittle better.
InvaderTrax Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 You can probably squeeze another 40k miles out of it if it's been maintained. I'd say $600 or so. Is it the LX or LX-i?
Duff Man Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Its a LX. and if it comes to $ I can have it within a week or so. the big thing for me is it gets 30 mpg and gas where I live is bordering $3 I think it's $2.89 for standard last time I looksed
JerrDogg77 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 i would offer 500, no more though. in two years, that will be a classic car.
MasterRex862 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 (edited) Heh. How old are you? I have a 95' Escort LX. I bought this when I was 14y/o for ~1500 dollars. I have since then put lots of time/effort/money in it, not to mention a body kit, a sega dreamcast ( Being replaced ATM, thx martymcfly! ) and all sorts of internal things, like seats, speakers, etc... If you like the overall appearence of the car, and it seems to suit you, get it. I would drive it around for a while first, take it on an interstate and see how it handles at high speeds. That could be your dreamcar, man. Look at this. Need I say anymore? Work on your car, learn your car, BECOME your car. LOL.... Like rice? Get it. A little saying.... GOT RICE?? I got rice... I like rice... I bought my Escort in similiar condition, execpt mine just had bad battery terminals. I worked on it. Alot. I put a bodykit on it. I will take a picture of it when it gets back from my local Mercedes dealership; as it is getting painted right now. GET IT! MasterRex862 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Look it up. The Escort was the one of the original ricers. ASSHAT. www.feoa.net www.escortracing.com Lots of other links as well. You also changed the subject. This is not about my car. And at least I have a car!!!!
94Camaro Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Umm, there is absolutely no reason for that sort of a response MasterRex. You are right though, an escort is most definitely a ricer. Less engine displacement than a bottle of mountain dew and plenty of fanboys. Back on topic, I wouldn't mess with the Accord. Sure, it might be simple to fix, but it will constantly have little things going wrong.
MasterRex862 Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Sorry, I lost control over myself. Stupid 12y/o's with no knowledge... Hmph. I, on the other hand, think you could completely fix that Accord up. My mother recently renivated an OLD Studebaker. A really old studebaker. It cost about 2000 dollars over a period of about a year, but now that is a definite hottie classic car. Just work with it.
