g_bones Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Hey, I have a friend that has a BFG 6600 GT and an MSI 6600 GT that he wants to run in SLI. Is this even possible? I thought that maybe if he could flash them with the same bios, it might work, but it is proving to be a hard task to find bios for a 6600 GT. Is there any hope? spectrascope Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 why does your freind nit return one of the cards and get one of same brand? but besides that theoreticaly you should be able to sli any diffrent brands of 6600GT as long you use the nvidia drivers and not the drivers packaged with thee card
g_bones Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 The card Bios are different, so the drivers won't make a difference. He bought the MSI card, and then it fried, so he bought the BFG at Best Buy while he RMA'd the MSI card. I tried to talk him out of it, but he is impatient. I figure this could work, though. ir_cow Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 (edited) PCI-e only, dont need to be the same brand, but they do perform better if they are. the "brige" conector comes with the MB, if not well ebay may sell a few. Edits: the Newest Nvidia Drivers solved the clock diffrence problem when in SLI, overclocked or not and the cards didnt run at the same speed. i think it just runs at the slower ones speed, not sure.. g_bones Posted May 15, 2005 Posted May 15, 2005 Well, it worked. For some reason, I couldn't get it running with the BFG bios on both cards, but I'll attribute that to some MSI software that my friend had installed with his drivers. So, because he didn't want to format, and uninstalling the drivers didn't help, I flashed both cards with the MSI bios, and boom!, we have SLI. I don't know if the performance is what it should be, I don't have anything to compare it to, but he has an AMD 64 3000+, 1gig of generic ram, and the 2 6600 GT's, all stock speeds on everything, and got a 6187 on 3dmark05. I know it was alot better than a single card, and he was happy. Just thought that I would give an update.
