Vooduu Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 im looking into getting a bfg 6800 gt oc.i know they are not cheap.on ebay i seen a used 6800 oc and the seller said you can unlock or open extra pipelines and a shader that the factory doesnt do.so meaning will it run up to the 6800 gt specs or more and maybe save me some money.what do you think. ir_cow Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 ummm usally you cant unlock the 16pipes, its luck of the draw. nvidia was smart to sell the damaged pipes as a whole diffrent card and save $$, thats what the normal 6800 is the broken Gts' and Ultras. r_target Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 6800 OC has slower, weaker RAM than GT/Ultra also.
InvaderTrax Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 My 6800's extra 4 pipelines opened up fine. Gets 10.2k in 3DMark03 (real GT gets like 11k). I'll sell you mine for $
Vooduu Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 so better to get a gt oc than a oc?
markiemrboo Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Whatever you can afford, they'll both be good If the GT isn't much more, go for that. My 'high score' in 3dmark03 with my Leadtek 6800NU, all pipes unlocked and overclocked, is ~12,400 I can get over ~11,600 EASY (395MHz core overclock and about 830MHz on the RAM) with this card Probably be able to manage 13k pretty easily with a decent CPU overclock, but the memory controller on my chip is crap Haven't had any troubles playing all the latest games, 1280x1024 maxed out with some AA/AF. InvaderTrax Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 All I did to mine was open the other 4 pipelines and OC 25MHz. I'm thinking I should play with the RAM and break 11k
r_target Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 so better to get a gt oc than a oc? 475889[/snapback] Yup.
markiemrboo Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 The RAM doesn't seem to make much difference on my card. At the moment I am blaming this on being bottlenecked by my actual proper system RAM, which is running at 200MHz 2-2-2-5. Might explain why I get a speed boost when fast writes is enabled (writes directly to the cards RAM that way). Try like 390MHz on the core and see what that gets you
drewkivela Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 my 6800gtoc is at 439/1.13 with 13256 in 3dmark03, much better than a 6800vanilla -drew
Supertech Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Enlightn me on this "Unlocking the pipes......" Is it possible on a 6600? Also, why can I run my 6600 @ 575 and 1100 respectively whilst these 6800 cards run at 350 and 7or 800?
DECwakeboarder Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Different cores/memory types...also, I'd say buy trax's if he's willing to sell, $230 would be a great price and as far as I know he's an honest guy.
