mantonr Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Just wanted to know whether anybody else has experienced this. It just so happens that i have been checking how many points each work unit that i have been getting recently is worth on the stanford site and it has just hit me that i have had exactly the same work unit 3 times in a row. Is there a problem or is this normal and has anybody else also experienced this that they know of? Cheers
martymcfly Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 it is common. It may not be exactly the same Work unit just the same protein. Unless, of course, you just keep analyzing the same exact data over and over, which i doubt.
94Camaro Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Yeah, it happens. Just luck of the draw. They run each work unit several (hundred?) times, not just once, so it is actually pretty likely that you'll get the same one several times. Nemo Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 You may have the same protein, but each WU is define by project number and within each project by rune/clone/generation. If you check your log file, you'll see something like this: [02:33:38] Protein: p1136_p1130_L939_K12M_355K[02:33:38] - Run: 14 (Clone 100, Gen 0) This tells you eaxactly what you're working on and each one will be slightly different. It's not unusual to get the same protein several times in a row if the server to which you returned the previous work unit has more work to hand out.
