GuJuMaN89 Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I am trying to run a app called JKeys in wine and i put it in the window/system folder and in the terminal when i run "wine jkeys" it says cannot find jkeys.def file. the jkeys.def file is in the same dir as the jkeys.exe. any ideas guys? do i have to edit wine to also run the def file? asus Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 is the .def file in the right place?? remeber, WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR.. it does not run everything... infact i find that most things wine does not run.. it usually runs main stream apps like photoshop or someting.. but other than that.. the small apps i find dont run to well.. asus Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 thats the thing.. wine is not an emulator.. it does not emulate windows.. it just uses similar methods of doing thigns so windows programs can run..
cybergrunt69 Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 does that application have any type of setup / installer? If so, use wine to run the setup, and it'll config it right. Â Otherwise, you can also try downloading Crossover Office, which is like wine on speed. 30 day trial, but it's still decent for getting odd apps to run. DECwakeboarder Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I find it best to just find similar programs to do what you want under Linux, it will make your life much simpler in the long run.
GuJuMaN89 Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 this particular program is one of a kind, it uses the parallel port to access a device conncected to a satelite reciever to recieve the box keys and to edit the flash memory for diagnosis of problems. asus Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 i would not be trying to use a program like that with lunx.. linux has enough trouble getting game pads to work.. i really would not try a app like that in linux.. if you did get it to work it may just screw something up.. really.. just do a dule boot.. use linux for what you usually do.. and windows for this app..
