xPETEZx Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 (edited) Hi, I have an Old Windows 98SE machine, that I just use for games at LANs etc. It came with Norton AntiVirus on it, but that ran out, so I put AVG on it, however, during start up it keeps on looking for a Symantec folder in the System.ini or something. Heres a few shots of it: (I SUCK with the Digi Cam sorry bout the poor pics.) ANY help would be appricated. Rather annoying always having to watch the PC while it boots. <_< Thanks in Advance! Ste Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 oh nice. Norton sucks try a repair if thats possible with 98. Other wise try a roll back or last known good configuration if thats possible with 98.
Nerm Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 If you have already removed Norton's then search in system.ini, autoexec.bat, and the registry for SYMEVNT.386 and remove that file and references to that file in those locations. After doing so you may get another error with a different file mentioned and if so just remove it the same way. This specific problem occurs 9 out of 10 times when uninstalling Norton from a win 9x machine.
xPETEZx Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 gay..... already searched in the system.ini file, nothing there. Ill try Autoexec.bat, see if anythings in there. How do I go about searching the registry? Use regedit?
MasterRex862 Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Yea. regedit works fine; but don't ( explitive here! ) up!! You could COMPLETELY screw your system worse than it already is. Have fun!
Nerm Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 yes, yous regedit. You can also use registry cleaner to simply clean your registry which can sometimes fix problems like this with Norton. Just open regedit and search for SYMEVNT.386 and remove all the entries found. MasterRex, how can you follow up your first statements with "Have Fun!" lol ya trying to scare the guy? haha
