BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Hey! Is it alright to put the temp probe BEHIND the CPU fan, slightly inside of the heatsink? Far enough where the entire probe (on the end of the wire) is inside of the heatsink? Just want to make sure it won't melt or anything, that would suck....hhehe Thanks! GTSticky Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Seems like a reasonable way to go from where I sit. And it's quite unlikely to melt considering its purpose is to measure CPU temps..
BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 When I got my comp the idiots had it taped on the side of the heatsink.......... I think this is more accurate, considering it gets cooled off by the fan, just like the processor is.........also it's more in there too. i don't use tape anymore! Although I do use a strip of tape for my harddrive probe, as how else can you secure it?
Nerm Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 lol, if your temp probe melts you have some serious temperature issues haha. It will be fine.
anthony Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 The probe should be as close to the cpu as possible. attach it to the side of the integrated heatspreader on the cpu. err here, sorry for my amazing drawing
BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Some say it's fine, one says It should be on the side....as if the PC people weren't idiots afterall..........care for there to be a tie breaker?
Nemo Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 roadkill is right, IMHO. You want to measure the CPU temp not the heatsink temp.
BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 This is the closest I can get to the processor though
Nerm Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 You can put the temp probe underneath the cpu inside the socket if you want to get really close.
BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 it would scare me to take it apart....meh lol
Hyper Threaded Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Your reading won't be completely accurate with it placed like that. What I've done is slide mine under the heatsink right where the CPU touches the heatsink, so the reading is pretty close. The best thing to do is use some thermal compound or thermal adhesive to attach the probe to the CPU's heatspreader.
BlaineBug Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 IC. When I used this program to monitor CPU temp the reading was pretty close to the probe.....unlike the motherboard reading which displays much higher, sometimes 20'C higher OR MORE.
