CoolMaster Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 This is a completely random question I know, but what exactly are video cards made up of, like silicon or what, anyone know everything about their "ingredients" and what their made of? Nagash Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I believe their PCB (if this is what you are even asking) is comprised mainly of copper.
CoolMaster Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 like the board and stuff? i thought it was made out of silicon, im talking about the big board piece, that kinda looks like cardboardm, you know...the big main part? any other things that are put in besides the obvious? mainly Im asking, what is it made "mostly" of, like what is the main percentage of it made of? Nagash Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 The PCB (printed circuit board) is that "big board piece".
tbone2sk Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 They are made out of some plastic, silicon, lead, copper, and conductive material.
CoolMaster Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 What is the silicon used for anyone else agree or disagree with the PCB part being coppeR?(not that i dont believe u but jsut seeing what everyone say)
tbone2sk Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 the PCB is made out of a insulator and there are wires and stuff inside it, the wires might be made out of copper. I know that the solder points must have some lead in them.

bigred Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 it's a carbon fiber board if I remember correctly.
BabyBalrog Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 It better be an insulator otherwise the whole board would conduct electricity and it would be imposible to have transisters on it. I think "copper clad fiberglass" is what is used to decribe most PCB boards
slugbug3311 Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 it's a carbon fiber board if I remember correctly. 471529[/snapback] Man I need to start replacin car parts with computer parts, I have to make a video card my gas door
CoolMaster Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) ah cool, then question what is silicon used for in Computers? I know Im dumb I guess MOBO's are made out of the same thing pretty much, well the PCB and the main part of motherboards? anyone know the exact materials for the PCB?
