markiemrboo Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Here's a nice little story for you all. Over the past 2 or 3 days I have had two blue screens. First one was one I had never seen before, referring to page table entries being corrupted by a driver. So, I downgraded from Xtreme G 76.xx to 71.89 (based on the latest non beta drivers). The second one, which I got today, was rather suprisingly a 'page fault in non paged area'.... guess where? nv4disp.dll. *sigh*. Now, I am pretty dang sure it's not my computer being unstable. Know why? Not long back my brothers computer was crashing with nv4disp.dll. I updated his drivers and I don't think I have seen it since! Does anyone else have this problem? My computer had only been on for about a day, just went to play FarCry (which I just completed, great game). What's the MOST STABLE drivers? I don't care if driver so and so will give me an extra 1 FPS all around if it's going to make my computer crash once a day! r_target Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I would guess that the ones on Nvidia's site are the stablest available, WHQL 71.89 or maybe the older WHQL 66.93. Oh, 66.81 WHQL was pretty good too.
markiemrboo Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I'm using 71.89's. Just been reading over the net that a lot of people seem to be having real problems with them anyway, so I guess i'll just go back to 66.xx or.. some 6 series driver. martymcfly Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 i thnk 66.99 is stable. Also, some of the betas seem to be more stable than the 71.89s. Try 75.90 or 76.10 betas. They should be good and stable.
markiemrboo Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I was using 76.xx something something when I got the weird blue screen, so for the moment I am blaming the nvidia drivers for that one too. I just found some 67.22 WHQL driver, so I will see how that one goes
the11ama Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I've been running 71.84 without problems for some time now, but when I upgraded to the 75.xx (can't remember which) I had some serious problems. I had to completely uninstall the driver in safe mode and then reload the 71.84 drivers. Have you tried that driver yet instead of 71.89? It's possible that the drivers you used may not like your clock settings... stable yet not quite.
markiemrboo Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 The drivers on my brothers computer actually appear to be 71.84. I'll see how these 67.22 things go first though
cchalogamer Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Idk, ive used ALOT of diff drivers with my 6800 and it's yet to have any issues, the only difference is the varitation in game quality vs benchmarking performance. On a side note i discovered the drivers for my laptop's video were over a year out of date updated them now it suddenly has Intel Extreme 2 Mobile graphics....I though Extreme 2 was only compatable with newer chipsets....oh well upped my 3DMark01 score on it by 100 pts. I wish you luck with your drivers and atm im running the latest release as of last week off omegadrivers.net.
markiemrboo Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Yeah, it's weird. I have used loads of drivers. I recently started updating them again and lots of issues it seems. Can't remember what I was using before I updated them now though. Poo! 3dmark01 by 100 points. lol. nice!!! Very extreme! I need to invest in an arctic silencer thingy at some point. Might order one now, just to try and keep me happy (I can then proceed to vmem mod my card you see).
Guest Raven65 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Was it you who just modded your video card? That could be part of your problem. Just a thought
cchalogamer Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 3dmark01 by 100 points. lol. nice!!! Very extreme! 471011[/snapback] Hey when i bought the laptop it scored under 1500 and with all my modificatioons and driver swapping if managed to get it up to 2141. Tell me that's not highly impressive percentage wise for a laptop It cant even run all the tests due to lack of hardware support
