Religion Is A Lie!

I am a thinker, in my exsistence I have figured out, that no matter how any religion started, it is a monopoly, most religions tell us to abid by certain laws and rules, and darn those rules seem awfully close to most rules and laws of governements and of many societies. Now obviously that is because most governments formed from religion. But what did you expect. Anyways I believe religion was created to control the masses by exerting a short of "peer Pressure" if you will. And whoever created it was a genious. Human nature is to have a feeling of belonging and ownership. And that is what religion serves. My conclusion is that we as humans are so closed minded that we would be willing to commit to something that there is no proof of, except a book written and some stories.

In this, I govern myself. I believe in no religion, no hell, no gods, no souls, no life after death. I make my own decisions dependant on my goal in life, and it is as simple as what many who do believe in religions want, happiness.

Doesn't this just open your eyes a little bit?

Kind of a controversial topic.... I like it :)

And PERSONALLY I agree with MOST of what you said... I like the idea of controlling my own life... and I dont like the believe things without hard proof and evidence...

PROVE... to me that God exists and Ill believe... but thats not what religon is based on...Religon is based on BELIEF so there will never BE proof or else religon could just crumble...

Anyways thats just my views... maybe Im wrong... Maybe Im just a childish 15 year old... sue me...

Anyways, I believe everyone is entitled to their own views...

Nice Topic IMO...

Close-minded and arrogant people rarely deeply consider the words of others who have beliefs against them- some religions are the epitome of arrogance and ignorance, in my opinion.

I, myself, am not really anything(but some would call me agnostic) because I really don't know if there is such a thing as a 'god' or not. The question of 'why we are here' does not matter much to me because I believe, regardless, we should try to make the best of what we have in the here and now. I pose this question to you:

How do you know there is no hell, gods, souls, or life after death?

I believe considering oneself to be atheist is somewhat like a religion- it is a group of people who act like they know something they truely have no idea about.

However, when I refer to religion, I am mostly refering to religions whom have a deity or deities. There are some religions that are merely groups of people who share similar, idealistic views- I dont really know if they should be consider religions or not, but most people refer to them as such.

I will admit I am arrogent, but thats only the opinion of those who observe me, so I don't care, doesn't affect me. I guess its really how someone was raised and thier own decision to believe in whatever they want.

But the bigger question. Does it really matter, in the end we will die. that doesn't change.

The truth is- nothing really matters, but some people like to think it does. People like to have drama in their lives like in movies or stories.

Even if there is a 'god' and a physical 'heaven' and 'hell' I really wouldn't care much because they are not here. We need to make the best of things here, not for some imaginary being or in some imaginary place. We need to focus on what we have, not what we want.

yay! i love religion threads.

i'm an atheist/agnostic/whatever, but i have to disagree with your statement.

why? i hear you ask...

well, you said "Religion Is A Lie!". Religion is a bit of a broad vague term if you ask me. You are probably referring to the religions that you know about (Christianity, Judaism, Islam...). Religion is defined as "[A] strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny". This could mean heaven / hell / god or what/whoever the specific faith belives in. However, i'm more inclined to see religions as a set of principles which abiding by would make you a better person. Imo, religion isn't a bad thing - look at a list of charities and orginizations like Chrisitan Aid and see how many of them are religious. It brings communities together and gives people comfort in believing there is a higher power controling their destiny. But saying this i think that there is no "supernatural" power controlling our 'destiny' but something is. Confusing eh?, well, for want of a better phrase, i believe 'energy' is, when you think god you think omnipotent right? and who/what created the universe? Energy is the one thing that makes up everything in our universe. (btw this is a theory :P) string energy vibrating at differnt frequencies creates the building blocks of quarks, and in turn protons etc... anyway to cut a long story short god=energy - it's just two different ways of expressing the fundamental thing that makes up our universe.

Hmmm... <_< i wonder if that made sense???

3 things that I think are important to religion:

1: believe what ever makes YOU happy. if praying to a god or what ever makes you happy, I'm not going to argue with you on that one

2: don't hurt others in the name of religion. seriously name a religion who's core values include hurting others... it's not just my view on this one

3: don't go out seeking people with other beliefs and telling them they're wrong. it's thier choice to believe what ever makes them happy, just like it's yours to do what makes you happy. respect thier choice.

I hate following you in a thread lol.......My dad is a preacher as was his dad, so I have been raised in a religious family and brought up under religious teachings and doctrines. I can see and understand some of the points all of you make. As a kid growing up I hated religion, because it was forced upon me but as I have gotten older I am glad I was brought up in a Chrisitian home. I am not saying I am religious now as I am NOT! I don't have time to be religious. Every human being needs something to believe in. Without something to believe in you have nothing and your life becomes empty. for example you don't believe in god or religion, but in doing so you are yourself believing in something which is nothing lol if that made any sense. Some people believe in more physical things instead like one day owning the house of their dreams, etc. Those sorts of things are beliefs and even though that person may not yet have their wants they have a belief that someday they will. The reason so many people prefer to believe in physical things like what I just mentioned is because they have trouble believing in something unproven. The simple thing about whether you believe in God or not is that it has never been proven that God exists yet at the same time it has never been proven that God doesn't exist, so even though an athiest says that they can only believe in something proven then how can they believe that god doesn't exist. Religion is such a fun topic because it can be turned and twisted in every way. It may very well be that a long long time ago a wise man invented religion to keep us occupied and give us something to do by arguing over something that can never have a decided winner, so in the end what we get is a choice. You either choose to believe in an unproven theory that God doesn't exist or you believe in the unproven theory that God does exist. The decision is up to you, and you have the right to choose as you wish.
