Sonz Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Will I see a big difference in Far Cry, CSS, Age of Empires 3 and WOW between a AMD64 3000+, 3200+ or 3500+, the prices jump up steaply with each one, and I'm wondering if the ingame difference I see will be worth it. Thanks
RnDestroyer Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 not really if have really good ram go with 3500 for the higher oc but other than that these cpus will not b bottlenecked at all in games it will b ur video card that will do the bottle necking
tbone2sk Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 There is not a big difference. But if you are going to be overclocking, then take a 3000 and overclock it to a 3500 or higher. CS:S is a cpu intensive, and a better cpu would help more there.
oralpain Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I think that a 10 multiplier is the sweet spot for overclocking.
Sonz Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Where do you find what the multiplier is on a chip? Im a total noob to OC'ing

Sonz Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 So, If I want to OC alot, get the 3500, My Vid card is going to be the X800XL more than likely, just want to be able to play all those games without lag, I don't do any movie editing ect. Since CSS is CPU intensive will a 3000 cut it with that Video Card?
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Those specs are fine for gaming.
kendellrt Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 you have a great card, just go for the best bang for the buck. The price difference between the CPU's is not to bad until you get past the 3500+.
oralpain Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Where do you find what the multiplier is on a chip? Im a total noob to OC'ing 464257[/snapback] You divide the actual speed the chip runs at by 200, as the stock external clock of an A64 is 200Mhz. A Socket 939 3000+ is can use a max multiplier of 9, the 3200+ 10, the 3500+ 11.
hardnrg Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 you could most probably run a 3000+ and x800xl both at stock and have very good results for gaming... my 3200+ and rather stubborn 9800pro both oc'd still hold their own, i've only played Far Cry and CS:S out of your short-list, but with an x800xl your framerates are gonna be NICE! if you've not played with AA/AF enabled before, get ready for the good stuff i haven't even completed HL2 yet because i'm too busy just running/boating/driving around looking at everything cos it just looks SO good! markiemrboo Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Yeah, 3000+ and x800xl will be good! I got a 3000+, 1.8GHz stock, and it's slightly better than my old Athlon XP at 2.3GHz. Overclocked to 3500+ (2.2GHz) speeds, it straight out owns it.
