Sometimes I Just Don't Know

I received a call from a customer today who had to have Windows reinstalled after she did something to it. I told her to put in her Windows XP cd and reboot her computer. Then I told her when the Dell logo comes up on the screen then she needs to press F12 to get to the boot menu. She tried numerous times to reboot and access the boot menu, so then I suggested we try and go into the bios to try and change the boot order. She couldn't get into that either. Then finally after about 1/2 hour of trying to figure out why she can't get into either of the two items, she says, I don't ever see the Dell logo, by the time my monitor comes back on its already trying to load windows. This triggered something in my mind, and I decided to ask her if she was turning off the monitor when she was turning off the computer. And she said yes. Well no kidding she couldn't see the dell logo, cause by the time monitor comes back on its already passed the Dell logo. Once I told her to leave her monitor powered on, everything went very smooth. What a waste of a 1/2 hour of my life.

lol, I feel your pain. Sometimes computer customer's can be so aggravating I just want to yell "You are stupid! Go give your computer to someone smart enough to own it." but I can't lol.

If she didn't know then I don't any problem with her doing that, that is just like a techy person always making fun of others...don't make fun of people when they ask!

Oh man does my mother crack me up, I started reading this post and burst into laughter and when she inquired as to what was so funny I told her the story...well the quote above was her response.

And regarding the topic well you wouldn't be suprised at some of the stupid stuff people do when trying to use their computer, never the less still a big pain in the butt when you find out the solution was so simple after all that work.

I've experienced worse- I was trying to get my friend to select items from a drop down menu and he couldn't do it =/, mind you, these were computer parts, but still- I was telling him exactly what to do and he just told me he didnt understand... ugh. I wish people could learn how to read.

Last Pc I built for someone (my boss, aged 63) rang me up demanding I fix the p.o.s I had built him "as nothing works now it's at home", despite my lengthy demo at work, I drove 63 miles at 8.30 at night only to find he was plugging the k/board to the mouse ps2 and vice versa..I will never build another one for anyone as I've built 16 over the past 3 yrs and even the very first one still calls me with every little problem, annoyingly not one of them has ever had a hardware failure.
