drago Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Ok, Its time for me to buy the next part to my rig and thats the power supply. It will be going into the thermaltake armor case blah blah, now to the point.. my motherboard is DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR, I dont plan to overclock cause i want to use cool 'n' quiet technology *i read on a review if u overclock and enable cool n quiet it can cause a system cra. I plan to play games and be using either ATI x800XL, x850,x800 OR Nvidia 6800Ultra. The CPU im buying *when they come out* is either a AMD 64 3200 Venice core OR 3500 venice. 2 SATA 200gig Drives *dont ask why so big i guess u can never have enough space*. And the RAM will be that OCZ stuff for DFI NF4 boards only PC5000. Now to make it easier for you: CPU - AMD 64 3200 OR 3500 venice core MOBO - DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR RAM - New OCZ PC5000 for DFI NF4 boards CASE - Thermaltake armor HDD - 2x SATA 200GB VIDEO - I plan to play games and be using either ATI x800XL, x850,x800 OR Nvidia 6800Ultra. *i am lazy* but tell me which is the best. Ok now your proberly like "whats the point in all of that high tech gear if ur not gonna OC: 1. I will OC later on. 2. Dont need to OC as yet 3. =D Main question = Which is best PSU that can run all of that? thx! p.s sry for long post ;(
Byron Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 I would check out any of the OCZ powerstreams they all are excellent power suppllies. I've got an enermax 495w with dual 12v rails, and its rails are perfect. Another good psu brand is forton if you dont have a lot of money to blow. And lastly pc power and cooling has one of the best psu's out on the market today, but they will run $230 for a 510w pci-e ready 24pin psu. crash Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I have both the Fortron and OCZ modstream power supplies. The OCZ is the best I've ever owned! I've had Thermaltake, Ultra, Antec, and others and the OCZ is the best. (I paid $89 from www.ncix.com for my 480 modstream, that's in CAD funds!) The OCZ weighs a ton and it looks sweet and it is super quiet. The Fortron is VERY heavy, (also bought from ncix for $29 - 300W) for it's price and it's rails are all rock steady even with an oc'd system.) I'd buy another OCZ PSU in a heartbeat. Go with that. BTW SLI uses special power adaptors and it's nice not to have to use a dongle for them.

Kash Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 The Modstream is a modular PSU whereas the Powerstream is just like every other PSU and has all the wires coming out one hole. Here's a look at the Modstream. Here's a look at the Powerstream.
