aaronamd Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 get a linksys WRT54G and then get thismodified firmware, this thing roxors! I can get the signal three houses down and you can even adjust the power that the tranceiver gets! so you could confine your wireless hotspot just to your house so no one else can get in! cchalogamer Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Have all you ppl that say Linksys and only one model every time ever tried anything? Im just surious, bc i know alot of ppl here like to reccomend what everyoen else does w/o any of their own experences. Now as for me the Linksys everyone keeps reccomendig is good, I have a D-Link DI-614+ that i use everyday that i got in a Notebook starter kit for $26 at Bestbuy after mail in rebates and tax. It work just as well as the Linksys my friend has and most Netgear models do the same, though the Cable modem/wireless router combo Timewarner cable used at another friend's house sucked...not horibly, but not as strong of signal. (btw my router has been tested sitting in the same spot and performed better) For a home router any of thehigher end modles of these three brands will perform well. the only brand that i have tried taht was total crap was Belkin. Got it REAL cheap and it really sucked, but i sold it and got 1.5x my $$$ back
aaronamd Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I only recommnd what I'm running! why else would Irecommend such aspecific firmware modification! the WRT54G is sitting here next to my monitor! it runs great and with the hyperWRT firmware it runs even better, nice and speedy and has an average uptime of about 2 months. I even used to host my website in it's memory, than I added a picture of my dog and it ran out, oh well. she's running great now and has been for a long time. and if you brick your WRT than you can go to this guide to unbrick it and make it work again! that guide is the best!
