Redskins36 Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 (edited) Why does the AMD 3800+ cost so much more than the 3500+? I'm about a day away from buying the processor and I can't make up my mind about the two. I've been reading and searching for the answer, but I haven't really found one that really satisfied me. The only difference I can see is that the 3800 is 200mhz faster. Is that really worth the $100+ bucks, or whatever it is? Puck Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 Is that really worth the $100+ bucks, or whatever it is? 462866[/snapback] Nope. The 3500 will easily overclock at least the 200mhz, even with the stock heatsink. Its just that the 3500+ is right about the breakpoint into the real high-end processors...hence the jump in price for a not so large jump in performance. The price gap gets bigger and bigger as the model numbers increase. You can do much more with that extra 100 bucks...put more cash towards your ram, by a nice aftermarket cooler(xp-90C w/92mm tornado and controller?), better powersupply, etc. I'd try to grab a venice core...you may need to wait about 5 days till most stores have them, but it should be worth the wait! drewkivela Posted April 15, 2005 Posted April 15, 2005 or when the next group of processors based on the venice core hit retailers your 3500 will drop some more in price and save a couple more bucks nice chip, congrats -drew
