Ste Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 (edited) I have already decided on a few things. Though, their budget limit is 1000$ Shipped and Taxed. This will be used by at least 4 people. Since I had no Limit on my build I need some ideas. Here are some of the things I have decided on. LCD Moniter (Under 400, so that leaves 600 for parts, Please suggest a good brand) It will be AMD board and Proc 512 MB of RAM Onboard Audio (they don't need sound card) 120 GB harddrive. Mouse and Keyboard will also be bought online. a 64 MB AGP Video card with DVI. OEM version of XP SP2 also how much should I charge for building it, I am thinking 100$ not included in price above. Though I will have to tell them that thier budget will not include a printer, or speakers unless they tell me so, and if they do want both for under 1K Ill have to do more thinking but. Any suggestions for parts? Edited April 14, 2005 by Ste
Nerm Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 What is the computer going to be used for? Knowing that would help alot in suggesting parts.
Ste Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Just about everything, surfing web, some gaming, typing, music listening.
napmaster383 Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 if this is for gaming, I'd suggest a better graphics card. Don't really need an LCD monitor. An excellent CRT monitor works just as well or even better, but if you must, I guess go for it. There is a special on newegg for a Samsung 17" 172X-silver LCD monitor with DVI and analog support. It goes for $369.99, but with the rebates, you save $150 which will bring the total down to $219.99. Do you need a case, power supply or do you already have those? I would suggest you eliminate the LCD monitor temporarily so you can just focus on building the pc itself first, but don't go crazy seeing that your customer has a $1000 budget. Then with the left over money, choose a monitor.
Ste Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I understand that, they have no parts right now, but they want a 19Inch LCD and they won't change thier minds. This is just a perlimnary thing for me for ideas.
BiPolar Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 As Nerm said, the more we know, the better. For instance: 1)what is the primary use of this machine? 2)Is it only minimal gaming use, or does he/she like to game? 3)Any photo/video editing? 4)Do they like flashy designs or simple plain ones? 5)If they seriously want an LCD and they game, remember that you are going to have to find one that has a response time of 16ms or less. These are generally costly. 6)Do they plan on OCing it? Or do you plan on OCing it for them?
Ste Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 1 Gaming and surfing Web 2 Medium I would say 3 no 4 Case he will pick out 5 Yes I know that 6 Ill overclock it a bit
Nerm Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 $1,000 is not a big enough budget for a primarily gaming system with a 19" LCD included in the budget. I think their budget needs to be more like $1,000 + Monitor, printer, etc. EDIT: When I build a gaming rig I normally budget a $1500 just for the system. Ste Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 (edited) Yes well its now 1200 Budget, Its only for 1 person now. Speakers are included now. Printer will be on network with a family computer I may build for his other family members. I already told them that Modem, router and Printer is not my problem. as in I won't buy it with budget they gave me. Anyways Recommend a good PSU? BiPolar Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Are there any legacy parts (Optical Drives, etc?) Just a quick, conservative budget without considering specifics: Mobo:150 CPU:150 GPU:200 Case/PSU:250 HD: 75 DVDRW: 90 Memory: 150-250 (depending on 512 or 1 gig) that's about 1065 BEFORE monitor/printer/speakers. So, I think his budget is a little low if he wants to include an LCD. You could probably go cheaper than my budget (remember, it's conservative), but at least it gives you an idea. good psu: antec, powerpc&cooling
