Ideas For Occ

Just some ideas I've got for OCC... thought I'd post the ideas out here and see what the members thoughts are. Maybe if they are liked enough, LP will add them.

  • Add a "Certification, Degree, And Homework" forum under the OCC Member's Lounge - There have been several topics lately that could fall into this area.

  • Do away with the "Polls" forum. I forget why we ever did this in the first place. If we don't do away with it, at least create a few separate categories (Hardware Polls, Software Polls, Gaming Polls, Misc Polls, etc.) for better organization.

  • Set "Latest Forum Topics" on the front page so it does not show topics from the any of the staff forums (restricted area, mod hangout, deleted topics, etc.)

  • Set "Related Topics" in the forums so it does not show topics from the any of the staff forums (restricted area, mod hangout, deleted topics, etc.)

  • Allow the "Related Topics" in the forums to also search for words that are 3 characters long. Currently it does not pick up important stuff like: OCC, HL2, WoW, CSS, PSP, PS2, Mod, HDD, or Kal.

  • Add an XFire icon to the user’s information if they provide it in their profile. -- Link from the icon can go back to the user's XFire profile

  • Add an RSS feed for the forums. - Latest topics, popular topics, whatever

  • Move "The Web" forum up or down so that the imaging forums are grouped together.

That's my ideas... what do you think? Do you have any other ideas?

I can't believe nobody's responded to this thread. Eliminate polls? Nooooo! Everybody likes polls. :D

How about some way to date threads so you know at a glance whether it's new or an old thread resurfaced. Kind of like is done with "Last Post".

The other changes suggested sound fine to me.

I say just get rid of the polls sections. Everyone always posts them in the alley anyways. And I like the idea of an RSS for the forum, that way I wouldnt have to have a window open all the time for the forum, I could just put the RSS in samurize and watch the topics that way.

Good job! Keep it up

Yeah, the polls can turn into Trollbait pretty quickly. I think all those ideas sound good, d3. One I'd like to add is a cutoff date for the related topics at the bottom of the page (if that hasn't been done already).

get rid of url filtering to sites that aren't product driven, by that i mean sites like virtual-octane.net and any other enthusiast sites that only help the community

filtering sites that make money off of traffic or are simply trying to get exposure to sell something, yeah, block those if you want, but don't be so simple minded as to try to "trap" OCC members, if they like it here, they will stay, if not they will leave, if all it takes is a link to another site to draw someone away, then they weren't going to stay around long anyways, and besides, we all have to be open minded enough to realize OCC may not be for everybody, why keep them from seeing what else is out there?

end the unnecessary censoring, be open minded, lets cooperate instead of alienate

:withstupid: plus dont add any new forums such as "homework help" this is a hardware forum, and it seems like more than 75% of the stuff posted on here is about other stuff other than hardware or computer related topics. We are overclockersclub, why is our overclocking forum smaller than the hangout forum!?!

Simply because you can only talk about so much different computer stuff before you want to talk about something else. Besides, remember there is a name change coming. Who knows what we will be after that!
