CoolMaster Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I know kinda dumb question, but Im gonna be buildingit soon, and when u choose waterblocks on like Dangerdens store, there's an option for extra O ring? what is it? and should I get it? and I need a vote, Plastic or brass fittings so far I only have 1 person telling me to get brass, thx
Byron Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 O rings are rubber rings that slide over the barb, when you tighten the barb down, the O ring will compress against the barb and the top of the water block making a tight seal. I didnt order any extra, but they are handy to have if you are uncertain about a barb. Get brass barbs for sure, plastic ones CAN break. CoolMaster Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 so o rings, are already on the waterblocks correct? but ill order an extra just in case or is the o ring basically just like a clamp for any other barb, but just for the waterblock basically? Nerm Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 The O-ring basically works the way an O-ring works in plumping or when you attach a spray nozzle to a water hose without an O-ring what happens? lol yea o-rings are nice to have. I also vote brass!
CoolMaster Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 but is it already on the waterblock, or do I have to buy extra?
markiemrboo Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Actually, I do believe the extra O ring option is for the rubber O ring INSIDE the block itself, to keep water in the channels and stop it seeping out in between the bottom and top halves of the block. You don't need one, they'll already be one inside there.

Guest Poopsicle Boy Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 o rings on gas hoses for paintball gun feeds stop excess air seeping out. basically it forms a vaccum seal. make sure ur o-ring is in and not broken.

The O ring is going to be in the water block, and it's not going to be broken. You don't need the extra one unless you ever intend on opening your water block, and even then you probably still don't need one! I opened mine twice and used the same ring with no problems. CoolMaster Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 so why would U need an extra one? if I am not going to open my block? why would i even open my block anyways? thx
Iggy Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 You would need an extra o-ring if your existing ones wore out from use, etc. You would open the block most likely to clean it, as I've done several times with my Maze4.
