O rings are rubber rings that slide over the barb, when you tighten the barb down, the O ring will compress against the barb and the top of the water block making a tight seal. I didnt order any extra, but they are handy to have if you are uncertain about a barb. Get brass barbs for sure, plastic ones CAN break.

The O-ring basically works the way an O-ring works in plumping or when you attach a spray nozzle to a water hose without an O-ring what happens? lol yea o-rings are nice to have. :)

I also vote brass!

Actually, I do believe the extra O ring option is for the rubber O ring INSIDE the block itself, to keep water in the channels and stop it seeping out in between the bottom and top halves of the block. You don't need one, they'll already be one inside there.

o rings on gas hoses for paintball gun feeds stop excess air seeping out. basically it forms a vaccum seal. make sure ur o-ring is in and not broken.

Yeah.......... he is talking about buying some water cooling stuff, new. The O ring is going to be in the water block, and it's not going to be broken. You don't need the extra one unless you ever intend on opening your water block, and even then you probably still don't need one! I opened mine twice and used the same ring with no problems.
