thef1re Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 (edited) My case allows space for 4x80mm fans infront for intake. But i only have 2 fans to use for the front. Should i put the 2fans on top row or 2nd row? and where should the HD be to be cooled best by the fans? SHould the HD be under the fans, letting cool air flow over it? Should the HD be ontop of fans, letting cool air go under? or should HD be in middle of fan, letting fan blow into HD? I had 1 fan blowwing into HD and added another next to it , so i hav 2 fans blowing into HD and i didnt get a lower temp..thats y i am asking for best way to cool HD with my situation. thef1re Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 (edited) what do you mean? my HD has a open bottom, revealing the chips. Are you saying that i should place my HD ontop of the fans letting the fans push air past under the HD? or fans ontop of HDD. with HD beneath it? hardnrg Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 you probably won't see any difference between all four of those set-ups tbh... does your harddrive really get THAT hot?
fire_storm Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 It looks like choice 3 would work the best.

littleaznkid Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 i wouldn't worry about HDD over heating. but just incase, id say like 3. But you dont really wanna block air flow too. and yes try to blow the air to the bottom of the HDD. or you can just get a 80mm HDD cooler. for like $5 now... anthony Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 youd be fine with anyof them, but Id take 4. Seeing that hot air rises, you would want your intake as low as possible so while it heats up, it will rise and cool down other components and ultimatly out through your exhaust. (idealy) but really, you shouldnt worry too much, your HDD's will be fine
littleaznkid Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 wow only 32 MAX?! thats pretty good. My brothers HDD survived with no fans at all. And still working fine. it might went up to 40-50 degress celcius in summer. no fans at all. We didn't know anything about comps back then. =D and it was running an AMD Athlon 1.4 with a small fan. kobalt Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) If you really want to cool your HD mod one of your fan to fit on the underside of it, where ther chips are. Leave about 1 inch between the drive and the fan, You can easily make brackets to fit the drive cage for the fan and wham!! a 80mm right where the HD sweats Edited April 17, 2005 by kobalt
Byron Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 i'd just push air under them, because its the underside that accumulates the heat, and that way, you will also be blowing cooler air into the case instead of blocking it by putting it in front of the hd.
