Da_Freak Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Hey whats up guys, this is my first post in this forums, so hellp to all. Ok so i have a nice system set up, modded out with the lights and crap, just hooked up the Koolance Exos water cooling system to my Intel P4 1.7 gig. So with all that said and done it is now time for me to OC it. But everywhere i look it says Intel locked there CPUs cuz companys were OCing them and raising the price, so i find no info on how to OC it. i go into my bios, i cant change thos settings, ive tried CPUFSB but i read many reviews that say if you dont OC in the bios its not a true OC, and also CPUFSB does not support my PLL. So with all that info, does anyone have any, or know of any ideas to OC my P4. and dont be afriad to give me some wild idea cuz the crazier the better, how else would it be fun . Ok thanks alot guys, happy OCing.
d3bruts1d Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Intel locked the multiplier on the CPUs, to make it harder to OC, but your can still OC them by increasing the FSB in the BIOS. CPU Speed = FSB x Multiplier Depending on the mobo, you may have to set something to "manual" or "user defined" before you can make any changes... other mobos, you can't change anything. With that said.. what mobo are you using?
Da_Freak Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Thanks for the reply My MoBo is, Intel d850gb and please give me some good news, i mean dont you think there should be a way to OC anything ? or is there a bios that i can get that will allow me to change my FSB or my multi ? thanks alot
smeghead009 Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 bad news Bro, Intel MoBos cannot be overclocked at all. Intel frowns on overclocking because it cost them money, if you really want to overclock find yourself a good ASUS or Gigabyte board. Da_Freak Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 ::sigh:: well thanks alot guys, if anyone has any info for me ill keep checking back with some wishfull thinking. or you can email me [email protected] with anything helpfull. later
xpandapuss Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 It sounds as though you're concerned about the possibility of overclocking a P4. Like Smeg said get a board which supports overclocking. Don't worry with the proper processor cooling methods you'll be able to OC that P4 of yours quite well....
Da_Freak Posted January 15, 2003 Posted January 15, 2003 well see thats the thing, i spent alot of money on this board, its the first model of the p4 board thats no longer made, the 423 socket, not to mention i have rdram in it, so id need a new board with a new CPU, and rdram boards are crazy expensive compared to the normal boards. lol not to mention you guys should hear what i did to make my water cooler fit the 423 socket, i was set on getting the CPU 200 to work with my socket 423, and all the modding sites said i couldnt, well what do you know, i did some grinding down, and hooked up some Twisty ties from garbage bags and extended the adaptor because it was to short, who knew twistie ties would have more then one use lol. so i was set on doing that, and i really am set on ocing this CPU, cuz if they did something to stop the ocing of the Intel chips, then respectively there has to be a way to undo it. smeghead009 Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 ouch, you could always sell it and build a new system, because without some crazy serious rewiring and crap you cannot overclock it, the 423 P4s where never very popular and i dont think anyone but intel made boards for them and even if they did it would be hard as hell to find on that uses RDRAM, if you want to go ahead and rebuild ive got a P4 1.7Ghz 478 that ill sell you cheap. CompX Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 WHAT!!! u say intel boards cant be OC'd? what u guys talking about I mean i just OC'd mine an hour ago(literally)from 2.8 to 3.02 hey not bad for a beginner right heck only took me a few secs. anyway if i put it over 3.1 it auto shutdowns. Well i have a p4r533-n INTEL i850e mobo. dont c why u cant oc them. Unless i failed to read something right. Anyway i dont know much just thought i'd get the fact that i CAN oc mine.well if i am stupid try not to be too mean aight! oh and about what smeghead says.... i use rdram whats wrong wit that ....oh and if the 478 socket which i have doenst apply to wut u guys are talking about... once again no harsh feedbak
Da_Freak Posted January 16, 2003 Posted January 16, 2003 lol, well how did you OC your intell board ? did you use a program? because i wrote the programer of CPUFSB he said that my mobo dont have something called an SMBUS so there is nothing programing wise to OC it. now you speak or rewireing, that sounds like fun lol. im pretty much up for any ideas. I am putting my PC up for sale on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2301450420 just to see how much i can get for it, theres some pics of it there to if you just wanna take a look, and all my stats i listed for peeps there, hopefully ill get some bids and start on a new system. So does anyone know a way, not through programs to OC the FSB on a mobo ?
