Xune Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 I have been debate'n on upgrading my AMDxp 1800+ chip for a few weeks now. I just got the new 6590MSI mainboard and a volcano9 heatsink to plot down on it for some serious overclocking (almost 1.7Ghz from my 1800+) I was talking to a buddy who is a tech at Bestbuy, he had mentioned that the MP series came totally unlocked from the factory. Now if this is true I will fork out the extra cash for one of these chips. Was hope'n that one of you guys could shed some light on the situation! ATI Radeon 8500 Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 It is true MPs do come factory unlocked. I am not sure though if they can be used on XP motherboards (though I assume they can) but MPs are really designed for server usage. I guess you could probably use one but they don't come at speeds as high as XPs.
Ronin Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 you need a special board to use the MP cpu, they're a diffrent socket I think. Just look around the net, should be able to find somthing. Get a dual MP board ::drool::
