Motherboard Fried By Ram

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

when i got my kingmax pc3200 512mb DDR ram stick, i accidently put it in the wrong way because i was being slack (proves now that i should pay attention) then when i powered the comp up, then ram slot started frying and I dc'ed the power and took the ram stick out. By then i knew my mobo was dead but im also concerned about my ram

Does it die due to the wrong way I placed it?

Its hard to say, Ive put PC133 in backwards before and everything just got really really hot for a moment, but it still alll worked after I fixed it. I bet the ram is fine though. I just had to reset my bios when I screwed up, you should try resetting yours. And you may be able to repair your motherboard if your l337 enough.

Two days ago I thought I would just see what kind of ram I had in my office computer - (a slow day) - nothing special -- stuck it back in and turned it on - walked out the room for a second came back and there was this distinct odor of burning Tennis Shoe - there was this faint glow around my ram - this is not good I told myself :O

Yea, didn't they put those "notches" on there for a reason? Didn't they make both "halves" different sizes for just this reason? Seriously dude, how much force did you apply in order to get DDR memory in wrong?
