What The Hell Is Wrong With This Piece Of Junk?

I have been trying to burn DVD's using my stupid HP computer for about a week now using the internal DVD drive. I have burnt DVD's with it before, so it did used to work so i know it isn't the software.

I have come to terms with the fact that i think the drive maybe dead so i have borrowed an external DVD writer to do the job in its place. i have even got some different software (Alcohol 120%) to see if i can make this work better.

After putting a new disc in i go into alcohol and tell it to burn the image using the external drive and it just states that the DVD in the drive is not empty to it cannot perform the operation.

Now this definately is not the external drive. I did try and format it using DLA that comes with windows but this just crashses when i click ok when it tries to tell me its finished and then it just shows the drive up as being a normal CD-ROM drive not a burner at all.

Does anybody know what is going on here, but my computer is really starting to hack me off and as soon as I have money to build one myself i'm giving this piece of junk to my sister.

Cheers

When you buy a prebuilt PC, you have to look at exactly what you're buying.

I was having the same problem with a Dell burner and i found out that it was only compatible with DVD+R's, and I was using DVD-R's.

yeh i have the write format of disks, i got dvd+r's and everything but they just don't work. I'm thinking that they me just be poor quality disks since they wouldn't work in this really good external burner either.
