inevitab1e Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 (edited) Not familiar too much with these cards/brands. Right now i have the ati radeon 9600xt. Paid 169.99. Best buy has the PNY 6600GT on sale after rebates for 199.99. I know this is a better card, maybe twice as good. But not familiar with the brand. I also have the option to get a BFG 6600GT OC for 249.99. But I didn't want to spend that much for a vid card. I have a budget system, paid maybe $500, incl. vid card. Let me know what you think about the PNY 6600GT, and whether price wise it's worth spending 50 bucks more for the BFG 6600GT. Remember, the BFG 6600GT would be 80 more bucks out of my pocket vs the PNY 6600GT which is 30. THx everyone.. Dimonicka Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 I'd say go with the 30 xtra and put that other 50 towards more RAM or sometin. My only experience w/PNY was a 5200, never had a problem w/it. got some okay OC and have moved it on to one of the kids machines. As for the 6600GT OC, I've heard some good about BFG but you should be able to get a decent OC on your own and save 50 bucks, I think. hope that helps
bigred Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 1st question: is it AGP or PCI-Express? since most 6600gt's are PCI-Express this could put a serious damper on your plans
inevitab1e Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 AGP, i think it makes more sense to just spend 30 bucks to get a card that is probably twice the performance of the 9600xt. The BFG just has an overclocked core/memory. PNY= 500/900 BFG= 525/1025 I dont think that little increase is worth $50. Thx for the replies
gravy Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 yeah, get the pny, you should be able to oc it well beyond 525/1025......my xfx6600GT oc's from 500/1000 to 600/1200, but i run it 568/1140 all day long
