Hosher Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 I have been reading through all of the guides in this forum and peoples oppinions on Overclocking. I have a program that came with my mb that makes it easy to OC. And in that program it says that my system fan isn't running, but I opened my case and all of them are, my system temp is also fairly low at 34 C. Is this just an error? plz help. Psywar Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 aight first off.. ur system fan.. is it powerd by a 3 pin connector or a 4 pin..? if its 4 pin theres ur problem.. I am going to assume this program gets its readings from your motherboard... ur system fan has to be a 3 pin power connector.. and it has to be plug directly in to the motherboard to get a reading on the fan.. if its spinning.. how fast its spinning etc... aslo.. the fan has to have that feature avaible.. normally its a yellow wire.. RPM wire is what I call it.. I dont know the technical name for it.. I have a fan that has a 4 pin molex power.. but also has a yellow 1 wire 3 pin connector for RPM speed so my motherboard can read it.. So yeah.. Now i Prolly got u all confused... is it 3 Pin? and is it pluged in to the mobo.. if it is yes for all the above I would assume the fan doesnt have the specs to tell the mobo what its running at.. or running at all.. Hope that kinda helps..
bass_freak Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 some coolers ahve shity cencors..if you ahve this yellow wire..wiggle it some and lots of tiems that rpm reading will pop right up..., a realy good cpu cooler will have 4 pin molex for the power..and a 3 pin conector with just the yellow wire for rpm that wil be hooked the mobo for readings..thus the fan gets all the power it needs
Hosher Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 Hey thanks a lot everyone especially Psywar. I looked at all my fans and it doesn't look like any of my system fans are plugged into the mobo, only my mobo fan and cpu fan. Btw the OC program is called EasyTune 4. I also have another question, my cpu temp right now is at 53, would it be ok to OC it without having to worry about it getting too hot? bishop245 Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 you might want to upgrade your hfs first but just watch your temps and dont try to slam your system into over drive right off the bat
bass_freak Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 my msi board came with overclocking software also, but i don't hava alot of faith in it..i prefure to use the bios..but for a newbie it has some safty fetures in it (well most do) so it will lock or reset if system becomes unstable...so play aroudn with it some...
