vz2487 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 hi, i'm getting a Xbox pretty soon and i have heard of people modding to make their hard drive bigger from the punie 8 gig, now i need to know is there a special type of hard drives for this process. i have searched on google and looked at pictures of what the xbox is inside and too me it is a simple PC(simpler that the PC that I built). so i don't think replacing a Xbox hard drive should be that hard. but i want to know ne special step, precautions, and how to install the Xbox operating system back on the new Xbox. if there is a link that would b nice. Guest Jeremy Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 (edited) My friend used to have a modded XBOX with a bigger harddrive and he could store games on it and everything. It was pretty cool. Dont know how he did it though. Edited February 22, 2005 by Jeremy
GameGuru1 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 (edited) Any old IDE hard disk will do. You will need to mod the Xbox ( ie mod chip w/ hacked bios) first. Then you just install the dashboard of your choice (ie Evolution X, Unleash X, MXM etc.). The dashboard being the replacement of what you originally saw when you booted the Xbox. A new dashboard will let your Xbox have extra cool features, and it makes a great media centre good luck! GameGuru1 Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 dont plan on playing on xbox live though 424210[/snapback] You can play on Live. Just make sure your chip is disabled, and the HDD that was in your Xbox when you registered with Live is the one you use when you play Live. andrusk Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 (edited) You can play on live. You just have to take extra precations beforehand. You need to make sure you drive is "lockable", and that when you sign up for your live account that you use the drive you intend to play on. Its the marriage theory plus never play on live with your chip on, it must always be off. Also, you can use any ide hard drive in your xbox, but if the drive isnt "lockable" you will not be able to play on live. Couple of things to think about. Go to forums.xbox-scene.com for the detailed info. Everything you need to know about it is there. korn4266 Posted February 24, 2005 Posted February 24, 2005 I have been modding my xbox for alittle over a month. I use the xecuter3 chip It is a good chip. To choose a chip I would search for a modchip comparison chart there are many. But i recommend either the Xecuter3 or the Xecuter 3 CE chip. Soldering isn't that hard when i installed the chip in my xbox it was my first time soldering. It isn't hard at all just go to system-mods.com and order a chip that is the cheapest place i've found and they are fast on their orders. When you get the chip go to xbox-modchips.com and use their tutorials. I just ordered a 120gb hard drive tuesday and it is scheduled to arrive friday so i'll tell you how it goes. Good Luck. P.S. Make sure you follow the tutorial all the way through and you shouldn't have any problems at all. Make sure you know what version your xbox is before you start installing the chip. Then get a dashboard for more features i recommend unleashx...for a more begginner type dashboard i would recommend evolutionx.
