Nemo Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 PXE stands for Pre-Execution Environment. Basically it's used for diskless setups where there is no OS and you boot from the LAN. When the computer starts up it broadcasts a message over the LAN requesting instructions. A DCHP server (software, not the DHCP in your router) then serves it a set of instructions on where/how to get the OS it needs to boot.
