Hades25 Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 Ive been researching an the 6600 gt has a memory of 1000mhz and the core is usually 400 .. the 6800 has only 700 mhz and a core of 325 ... it does have 12 pipelines but what difference wouldit make btwn the 2 cards .. do they perform the same? the 6800 is about $50 more also... is it just a marketing ploy? GregP24 Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 The 6800 outperforms the 6600GT by a good margin, especially at higher res with AA/AF. Those 4 pipes make a HUGE difference, much like the difference between an 6800 and 6800GT/Ultra. If you buy the right 6800, there is a good chance of flashing it to a GT. There is no chance of making a 6600 anything other than a 6600. But by looking at your sig, I'd say a 6800 is pointless you will bottleneck severly on that CPU. Hades25 Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 really? so should it get a 2800+ or something? im not upgrading to a 64 bit yet .. so 6600 gt should be fine then huh?
GregP24 Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 If you can OC your CPU to around 2.3-2.4ghz I think it might be worthwhile to get a 6800. Don't qutoe me on that, I'm not overly famaliar with Athlon XP's. A64s and P4s I know like the back of my hand. Just grab a moble 2500+ and OC the snot out of it.
