How To Take Off The Top Of Your Case

i think i need to drill some holes on the top of my case but i dont no how everyone takes off their tops, is it bolted on there? i dont think the case matters but i have a chieftec and i need to take it off, any suggestions

ya i was trying to do this like a few weeks ago for my case and i couldnt get it totally off... it held the whole frame together and it felt like the case would flop over if i took it off lol... well something was keeping it attached to the frame and i didnt wanna break anything so i stopped.... ill have to do it again tho if i ever put a 120mm blowhole on top

I'd suggest rivets. IMO, they would hold your case together tighter.

If your top is riveted, you're gonna have to drill them out. You COULD use screws with lock washers.

Just drilling out a rivet wouldn't be TOO messy. Use a bit that is 1/16" smaller than the inside hole. (1/4" hole=3/16" bit) and a magnet or wet rag/paper towel on the opposite side. This (towel)will help reduce any shavings and the smaller bit will help from possibly elongating the hole. (COULD make your case wobbly when it's back together.)

 

If you decide to go with rivets over screws, I suggest using rivet washers with them.

 

And canned air is a MUST, if you're not removing everything.

 

These steps are kinda anal I know. (unnecessary even?) But, I don't want you to be posting about how a tiny shaving fried your mobo.

 

If you're nervous, send it to me, and I'll do it. I've got a hydraulic rivet gun from making road cases. MAybe I could get that HL2 window in it too before it came back :P
