Half Life 2 Box Questions

hey all,

so i have never played half life 1 but am excited to play half life 2 (as soon as i buy a better grfx card) so would it be a better idea for me to buy the collectors edition with both HL 1 and 2 or does HL 2 not depend all that much on HL 1. also if i don't buy HL collectors edition, is there any difference as far as game story or contents go to which box i buy?

nope, the collectors edition gives you a hat, poser, and stickers. thats it i think. just a bunch of doodads, that you may or may not want.

neither!! buy one of the versions off of steam. you get more for the same price.

The best value, and really the only thing anyone should buy unless they absolutely want a hard copy (a cd) and/or a stupid hat, poster, etc, is to register with Steam (you'll have to do so anyhow, even if you buy retail), and then use a credit card and get the Silver Package. You won't pay any tax (at least I didn't, in NY), so it's slightly cheaper, and you'll get HL2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life: Source, plus the complete Valve backcatalog.

 

For me, CS:S made it worth the price alone and HL2 was just a super-awesome bonus.

 

But anyways, you don't really need to play the original HL to play HL2, but if you have the time, it is definitely a great game and buying Silver, you get to play it in the updated Source engine.
