Tv Makes Monitor Have Lines

I just moved my JVC 15" tv on to my desk... and when it's on it makes my 19" Viewsonic monitor have lines accross the whole thing. The closer the tv, the worse the lines get.

Whatsup with this?

TV has a magnet in the back, if you have a CRT and place a magnet near it, it will disrupt the flow of electrons and screw with the picture. My chem teacher had a normal CRT and played with a magnet around it, the electrons will move towards the positively charged part of the magnet due to their negative charge.

I kind of have an add on to this question. but first I don't think the magnet in ur tv is powerfull enough to do that to your computer. now my question my computer case and moniter is gonnd be about 5 feet away from my sterio speaks (speakers mounted on the wall). should I not do this, how far do they have to be away. Thier 100 watt Infinity speakers btw.

It's like when you mess with a magnet around the TV screen, i think everyone did that once, the image twists and distort as you move the magnet around, that's what happends with your monitor, or something like that :P

Yeah.. getting powerful magnets near monitors and the like tends to make them behave strangely.. be this colour changes or visible lines. Its best to try and keep equipment with strong magnetic fields away from each other if poss.

As for stereo speakers, they tend to be one of the worst for this kind of effect.. especially if they are large/powerful. I'm thinking 5ft may be just about enough.

Things which have an effect on mains current in your house (vacuum cleaners/hairdryers etc.) also cause weird things to happen, but for different reasons.

hmm i think it was some magazen that did the magnet test on the computer. They came to the conclusion that any kind of magnet cannot harm your computer in anyway unless u got magnessts the size of your house or bigger.

You can mess up the Data on your hard-drive with a semi powerful magnet if you physically touch it to the drive. Same goes for Flash media.

TV's and CRT's are the same thing. They both have fairly hefty electro-magnets in them (Which direct the flow of electrons from the electron gun in the back to the glowing phosphors in the front.) and they can mess with eachother. Especially since the TV works at 60hz, and your monitor might be higher. You could try setting your monitor refresh rate to 60hz, that might solve some of the problem. Otherwise moving them apart would be the easiest thing.
