swifty11212 Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 k, i just recently checked my hs on my cpu, and it was dirty, so i cleaned it off with alcohol. and i found a old little bag of thermal compound so i placed some of it on my cpu and gpu and gpu's ram sinks. i hope it brings my temps down a bit. what is the best method for removing thermal compound/paste/adhesive from the cpu/gpu hs and ram sinks. also was it a decent idea of puttin some thermal compound on my cyclone fan so it can take in more heat from the system? Edit: seems like the heat was getting to it, not sure why,so i have the side panel taken off as usual. from all those resets i love progress on [email protected] ( ) , now ill try it again but with the side panel on. kobalt Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Usually peoples use alcohol, i use methyl hydrate as good or better (loll some might argue) and a Q-tip till nothing remains then follow AS instructions http://www.arcticsilver.com/instructions.htm I dont get your second Q putting some ON your cyclone fan??? If i read you right, not a good idea, thermal paste is not a grease, it will harden and cause more harm than good
swifty11212 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 lol im gonna wipe my cyclone clean then lol. hey would these work with my following cards, the radeon 9600se and the geforce fx5500. http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/chipset/menu.htm edit: i added some compound on a hs and placed it on my hdd went down like 1-
kobalt Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 (edited) There's 4 video card cooler on that link Anyways, it should say if you check the specs, but i beleive they all should work on most cards <_< And about your HS, putting a HS on something warm/hot will drain the heat off. and of course your HD temp will go down,a hard drive is a good component but not very heat dissipating. So if you think it'll perform better with coolers by all means leave it there I,ve put one of these on a drive that was a bit too warm for my taste, with a fan blowing on it and it worked great. Just the right width btw Edited January 24, 2005 by kobalt
