talvai Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I just heard Intel announce their making and even selling 64 bit cpus. I am and always have been a big AMD fan. Now my question to everybody is do you think Intel will beat AMD when the cpus come out? I mean Intel 64 bit cpu start at 3.2 Ghz and go up to 3.6 Ghz. Or do you think AMD will have something to show when the time comes? What you guys think?
littleaznkid Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 in my other post. Bigred said Intel will come out with a newer chip. That will handle speeds up to 4ghz and higher. Intel is just raw speed. I think intel will suceed. It'll be hard.
swifty11212 Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I think intel might beat amd, i hopenot, either way, price drops

caffeinejunkie Posted January 22, 2005 Posted January 22, 2005 I bet they'll cost some major cash and so will the boards. thats just a guess. And if the trend holds true those will probably be some hot chips as in watercooling minimum again just a guess
HoLoDreaM Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 fx-55 will always own intel
confuzzedintelguy Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 fx-55 will always own intel 401669[/snapback] I really hate to tell you this as it seems you are a AMD fan boy but the Intel Pentium M cpus at 2.4GHz will own a FX-55 not to many people use them tho because they dont offer very good graphics as the boards only support Agp 4x and one PCI-E slot. Me i like AMD and Intel i own a P4 and am building a A64 but one is no longer beter then the other now. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attach...achmentid=21173
gravy Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 it is said that some prescott 775 cpu's 3.2E and up made recently will be able to enable EMT64 when it comes out officially, they have the hardware, it just hasn't been enabled in the board bios yet since they are not officially out yet http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20852
confuzzedintelguy Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 Ya i herd that to that in the future there will be a bios flash and then it will be enabled dont know how true that is but the way intel works im sure it will be. fastvfr Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 There is some controversy surrounding the Intel 64-bit procs. Seems they will work great on 32-bit apps now, but when the 64-bit architecture is unlocked their functionality with 32-bit apps drops off markedly. That is just one reason that I will build an AMD system when I make the jump to 64-bit computing. That, and the fact that both the Intel LGA775 socket and the 9XX chipsets blow moose nozzle, as have all of Intel's Ver. 1.0 confabulations throughout their history. I prefer to let other, more intrepid souls Beta test for them. I will continue to use their Rev. 3.x stuff that mostly works as it should, thanks anyway. Bosco Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I think the delay of desktop 64bit cpu's from Intel may hurt them in the long run it shall be intresting to see what happens with them. <_>
Guest Silenc3 Posted January 23, 2005 Posted January 23, 2005 I think the delay was a smart move, I've had my hands on one of the Intels M proccessors also, from what a read bigred has also. Trust me Intel has some serious performance coming, though they havent fixed they're heat problems very much. the M cpu takes what? 120 watts i think it was
