Different Rpm In Raid

i have 2 40 gig wd's and was thinking of creating a raid 0 array but 1 is 5400rpm and the other is a 7200rpm will this work or do i need yet another drive

It should and will work, but as they always suggest; use the same drives for raids to be optimized. Your 7200 will be only at the 5400 speed. It will work though.

i wouldeny reccomend doing this because it will slow down the 7400 to the 5400 and it WILL BE NOTICIBLE and it may also slow it down more because it has to realize the speed difference

the HD's will spin slower yes.. noticing a speed differnce.. I dont really think so.. because its based on seek time.. not rpm speed..

Your Raid array will be set to your slowest speed hard-drive, so it can write data acurately, So personally i wouldnt do it untill you get another 7200rpm drive becuase the other is gonna write data at 5400rpm's if you put them in a raid array.... THAT IS MY 2 Cents
