I dont see any need to rip music at a quality over 192kbps.  I use 192 just to have that extra little bit of quality, but really I cant see a difference with a file ripped at 256kbps.  My friend ripped the evanescence album at 1024kbps, it was a waste of space, couldnt tell the difference between it at 128 and 1024.  I mean my speakers arnt the best, but they sure arnt the worst, and I dont notice any difference, so why do it?

yeah, i agree. For hip-hop and groups I really like a lot I'll rip at 192, but otherwise I don't care if it's 160 or even 128 (i'd never go lower than that though).

Anyways:

Music: 15GB, roughly 3600 songs (fully organized by artist/album, but now that I have an ipod, I have to slowly redo all the tags to make them display how I want on the ipod. bleh).

Movies: 16GB on my computer, but then another 150-200GB burned

TV Shows (mostly Friends): only 2GB currently on computer, and another 5-10GB burned

Porn: 50GB

and as for those with 100gb of music, I bet it's mostly DJs or those that are really into techno, house, etc. Not groups that actually get normal radio airtime.

LOL! Man thats a lot. I was search through the realms of DC++ and found someone who had 600 GB of porn.

I forgot about TV series, I have 20gigs of them, mostly Stargate SG1 (AWSOME SHOW) + Atlantis, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Invader Zim, Futurama and Malcolm in the Middle.

bigr5026... are you sure its 1 terrabyte? I didnt know that much was possible. Must be a lot of doubles or something surely

Mine are arranged by Artist > Album > Artist - Song Name.mp3. I have a few loose MP3's which I am sorting as we speak.

whoa a terabyteof music i would have to see a screen shot of that myself. Most of my music i have is an average of 2MB a song isn't that like somewhere around 500,000 songs. If she downloaded 100 songs a day that would take 14 years. so that sounds a little off to me

2 mb a song? I don't think I even have any that small. I have about 55 gigs of 192 kbps VBR mp3/wmas. Somehow I manage to listen to most of it. :P

right here's the quality issue.

get a 128kbps and a VBR (max quality) MP3 and play them on some decent speakers. you WILL notice the difference.

if you have average speakers, 128 is fine, but, when i burn to a cd, it makes sense to have max quality. that and the fact that i have a pair of yamaha YST's hooked up to my pc.

I know a few DJ's who are over 2tb of music now. though it's cuz of things like remix's, covers, and greatest hits albums (same song different original cd), or they have TONS of local bands.

makes my collection seem small and pointless.
