Base Bubba Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 Hi Guys, Does anyone know a good IP mask? Pref. Free. I don't like having the same IP address all the time. My ISP is supposed to change it every two weeks but they don't. IPCONFIG release, and renew doesn't work on the command line the number is the same. Thanx, bubba

vyroburn Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 if you are on dsl or cable, there is no way that you can get a new ip when ever you want............just get a hard ware firewall, on your network that gives all your computers internal ips, and then the external ip will stay the same and it will be protected by the firewall..... and it doesnt really matter anyway if someone wants to get in they are gonna get in now matter what!!!! VolcomPimp Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 ya just get a hardware firewall... if you need a new IP for other purposes *cough *cough ... then try using a proxy server instead... I really dont know much about them since I've never used them, but I know basicly what they are and how I'd use one and all... but ya if thats what ya want I'll leave it to the linux pro's to answer.... Ronin Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 you dont need to mask your ip as long as you have a decent firewall (software and hardware) The real threat is downloading trogans but the only way you'll get those is if you aren't careful. The only reason you'd be hacked is if you're a website or rather a very public server in which case, if you dont know about this you shouldnt be running one. No offense, I dont think Im qualified to be running a huge public server either. but if you're hell bent on this then use a proxy server. YODA74 Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 Wire cutters...... Seriously there is no program that is effective at masking your IP. If you really need to surf anonymously then you need a proxy service, and possibly a series of them. This Google has quite a listing of services, most are pay services...
