jammin Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Thought as if was getting towards the end of the year that I would give the box a quick dust down. As I hadn't cleaned the heatsink properly in a while I thought I should be thorough. Now I do clean it quite regularly, just without taking it out (I don't like doing it, it's awkward and those thermalright fan clip things are annoying). Anywho, it was a bit dirtier than I expected. Now that its sparkly clean again my idle temp has dropped from 43c to 39c. Not bad for just a bit of cleaning (oh and re-seating it of course) I also took the opportunity to clean the wires up a bit.. though I know they could still be better. Just wish my psu didn't have so many wires coming out of it.

fire_storm Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 keeping a case clean keeps the temps down. Thats why I have to clean my case every week.
DarkScorpion Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Its even harder to clean if you have 2 120mm fans on your sidepanel blowing air right onto your mobo
tharealmegaman Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 i remember i saw a pic of a comp that hadn't been cleaned in over 3 years..it looked like a grey dog when they opened it haha. i try to clean it at least every 2 weeks. whenever i need to open it for some reason, i just take the time to clean it. Byron Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I just cleaned mine out last night, and it took FOREVER to clean out everything. I did all the fans, (120's blow a load of dust), and put as ceramique on my 6800GT instead of the grease they had on it. Also cleaned out heatsink/fan, and put new ceramique on that also. Overall temps went down 4-6C depending on the component.

Hyper Threaded Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 I try to keep my case reasonably clean... Usually every few months I will clean out all the dust, I also have a filter for the front fan and an air purifier which helps some. I remember on my old Gateway that I had almost two years ago, I never cleaned it out. When I finally cleaned it out, it was nasty. Huge wads of dust covering the heatsinks. Come to think of it, I haven't cleaned out my Swifty in a while... I didn't bother when I put in the new case.
