hiph0pan0nym0usx Posted December 27, 2004 Posted December 27, 2004 heres the dealio: my comp doesnt work heres the specifics: when i turn on the computer it starts, but it doesnt boot, nothing comes up on the moniter, nothing happens. the lights go on, the fans are spinning, i can hear the hard drive spin, but nothing happens. i built the comp about 3 years ago and it consists of: abit kr7a mobo xp 1800+ 256mb crucial memory 120gig maxtor hdd geforce 3 ti 200 i just put in the hard drive about 2 months ago, but i dont see why this problem would anything to do with that. its not the memory becuase i checked it in another pc and it worked fine. its not the video card bc ive switched that out too already. ive take the whole pc apart and put it back together with no changes. i reset the cmos jumper on the mobo. i just dont know what it is anymore. im thinking now that either the mobo is gone or the cpu is gone. any input is appreciated. thanks in advance. martymcfly Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 i had that prob and I was confused as well. It turned out that one of the CPU pins had fallen off. It could also be the memory, but I doubt that it's the motherboard because the components are getting power.
O(V)eGA_l2el) Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 You can check the motherboard by taking out the ram and powering up the system. If you hear beeps--the motherboard is fine. I would test the system with only a motherboard, cpu, ram, and video card, and use trial and error. B)
kobalt Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 It can be tons of things, take it all out and re do the whole thing, might just be your video card that's not in properly
Compxpert Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 Hmm when my comp does this which it did it when I stuck the ide cable backwords when I adding my new hard drive or when I put my ram in. When it did this my Ide activity light was solid. Make sure all of your ide connections are in right for your hard drives or it won't boot like mine didn't. tharealmegaman Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 your best bet would be to do as they say and run it with then without ram. if it beeps, write down the number of beeps, then look up what it means in the mobo manual. when i had this problem, i asked the boards, and despite their helpful advice, it was a jumper problem. open up the comp lately? maybe dropped something by accident?
