Red Rider Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 I just surrendered my Dial up accounts and hooked up to Road Runner (cable broadband). Speeds are great. But now I only have one computer on line. Before with two dial up accounts, it didn't matter that the two computers were located approximately 100 feet apart in two seperate areas. Now with just one broadband account I want to connect both computers, plus a laptop. I am also thinking about sharing two printers, a sheet feed scanner, a flat bed scanner, fax etc between the computers. What do you think is best? Use one as a server? Use a cable/DSL router? I have my doubts about wireless. The one that would be used as the server, is located where it would be inconvient to turn it on/off , and I don't want to leave it online 24/7. thanks
d3bruts1d Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 Just buy a Cable/DSL router... the DSL (RR = DSL, right?) modem will plug into the router... and then each computer will connect to the router. Connect the printers to a computer (doesn't matter if you connect to one, or different ones) and then share them. All of your computers will then be able to use the printers via the network. Ronin Posted November 28, 2002 Posted November 28, 2002 routers, switches and hubs. they make me happy. Its just that simple, with xp its really easy, you connect it and it automatically configures an internet connection but not the network, still. next LAN i throw we'll have like 15-20 copmuters sharing my cable connection
Mr.sQ Posted December 1, 2002 Posted December 1, 2002 id have to agree with everyone but for your router the best kind is Linksys. Wireless is very iffy not very secure
