Guest FxXP Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 (edited) Socket 478 /w PCI Express? You have got to show me this. The i865 and i875 are not compatible with PCI-E technology. Edit: I found one... had to be Albatron. Go figure. Edited December 13, 2004 by FxXP

CoolMaster Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 so northwoods are on their way out then i suppose, so prescotts are the way to go now I suppose
ks752 Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Depends on what you want to spend. If you want to save some money get like a 2.8 Northwood, that will cost you around $150. Then in a year or two you can grab a Prescott.
CoolMaster Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 nah Ill get a prescott now, I wonder when they are going to officially stop releasing northwoods, i also wonder if they';ll come out with a new chip core aswell for the 478's? zigen Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 nope, the 478's are gonna get phased out. intel is switching to LGA775/Socket T now
CoolMaster Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 im sure 478's will stay around for some time though
TrendKilleR Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Dont count on it.... 478 has been around a while compared to some of the other chipcores. Im sure you will still be able to buy 478 chips and boards... But you can forget about intel developing anything new with that chip
airman Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 don't go with a pressy unless you KNOW you are going to get good cooling, i.e. xp-90, xp-120 or water cooling...if you keep that sucker cold, it can clock extremely HIGH! my suggestion, a 2.8prescott or a 3.0c northy. CoolMaster Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 dont worry i got a xp-
Uber Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 i would say grab an 3.2 Northwood, one with 800 FSB and 1 Meg cache, make SURE it has HT (myper threading) as hyperthreading makes it like you got 2 processors, its just a way to split the load. presscotts are to overpriced, and the highend ones produce tremendouse heat. if you cool the crap out of the northwood you will be able to OC it ALOT. CoolMaster Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 yeah but I still dont want top be buying a processor anytime soon, so Im thinking the prescott, I dont plan on OCing I have an xp-120 so it'll say plenty cool
