There are still bottlenecks in todays systems that need to be addressed before PCI-Ex will actually show a noticable difference over our much loved AGP 8x. sykocus Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 i wouldn't get a new m/b just because of pci-e. if you are building system you don't plan on upgrading for 6-12 months then you might want to consider it. right now you won't notice any difference between a video card that is agp and the same model video card in pci-e. However if you are considering a new system anyways then PCI-E may be for your consideration. I've been discussing this on other threads for a few days now. Basicly there isn't going to be any performace differnce for at least another generation. And then there is the problim of upgradability. All future chips should be PCI-E native, but some will continued to be bridged backwards... but how long the bridgeing will last is up to anyones guess. Unless you plan on getting TWO pci-e cards to SLI, there's really no point of spending the extra dough (and techincally there's no point of even spending the extra dough on SLI since the benefits currently are negligible at best).
