tazwegion Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Termination Imminent It's a sad old time over here @ Taz's Retro folding facility (NARF )... since the ancient relic's discovered the existance of the Super Gromac namely p1407_polyQ20x2 in water what may take the average system 2 hours per step, takes these babies upto 24 hours, @ 100 steps that's more than 3 months for 241+ points... basically Retro is no longer viable So as they dump their WU's the Retro PC's will effectively be de-commissioned (unless they happen to score another Tinker ) and that will be that, unless I diverge into KT133A chipset powered systems... Ahh oh well... there's always Seti @ Home eh?
Nemo Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Say it ain't so Taz - the demise of Retro?
tazwegion Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Not entirely, just in it's current form Just gotta' use PC-100/133 (too much too waste ) support m/boards But Super Socket 7... as far as the [email protected] project is concerned... is a dead cause Still they were in service (somewhere) for the last 6+ years
hardnrg Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 can't you earn points on WU's without deadlines? like by selecting that option in the config? hmmm
tazwegion Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Yes, but I believe that the later it is... the less score they generate For example, K62-550 does a large 240+ point Tinker in say 15 days... versus 240+ Super Gromac in 100 days... doesn't really justify the electricity does it? <_< But like I said in my first post... I could still use them for the [email protected] project... might even find me an Alien Nah... early Skt /A is definitely the new Retro of the future! road-runner Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 I have been getting a lot of those 1400s in water and they are tough ones usually 3 or 4 days on a high clock intel, I got one on my 450mhz a week and I think its was on 14 or 15. I am sorry to science but that machine is unplugged and in retirement, fixing to put a 2.4 or 2.8 in its spot. I have to many going to worry with that slow one. Can we have a moment of silence for the P2, may it rest in peace in the computer junk room, it served its purpose in its day but its time for bigger and better and faster nachines. I'm jsut kidding, and wish there was some way to keep that computign power looking for a cure... Isn't there something in the initial beenchmark that helps stanford only assign you WUs that your computer can handle..? because it seams to be failing by giving you those....
