tharealmegaman Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 i see people recommending both the most but is there gonna be a real difference? will one get a little more juice out than the other on the same cooling? if not, then why not just use coolbits since its just a matter of a reg key? nVidia_Freak Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Well, when you add Coolbits, it unlocks the options in the nVidia Analog Display, and allows you to oc, monitor temps *if applicable,* other ops. RivaTuner, allows you to do more in depth things, like forcing pixel shaders, and such, more tech stuff, and sometimes it can get you that 1 extra MHz on your clock speed. I'd get both. TheSternMystic Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Rivatuner will not ever let you get a higher overclock than Coolbits under the same conditions. Rivatuner just uses the Device Drivers to change the clock speed anyways, just like Coolbits. So unless you want alotta extra stuff, go with coolbits. It's like, 40bytes. kendellrt Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 You can enter more reg entries than just the coolbits entry and get access to all of the settings in riva tuner. Check out this link for a couple of enhanced coolbits reg files. Riva Tuner, however, does seem to help prevent the notorious resetting of RAM clocks that are inherent with nVidia. They said that they have fixed that problem in the latest 6xxx drivers, but it still happens to me. I just stopped overclocking my video, as the clocks always reset, and I never really noticed any performance gain outside of synthetic benchmarks. For example, I was oc'ing my card with Coolbits, and I got it to 452MHz mem. The next option, Coolbits jumped to 455MHz, and that wouldn't work. Riva Tuner, however, I was able to get that one extra MHz, so my mem was 453MHz. Therefore, yes, RT WILL get a higher oc than CB on the same conditions. r_target Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I like Rivatuner because it offers me many, many, more ways to screw something up.
tharealmegaman Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 i wouldnt credit anything with +or- 1mhz. that could have just been the slightest change of temperature. but i'll check out riva. thanks.
